“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a things to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:1-11
In a world of inequality and injustice and sin we do well to be reminded of the one to whom all knees will bow. Whether or not you bow the knee to Jesus Christ today, all people will bow someday. And all people will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
As I mentioned on Sunday, true reconciliation and true peace and true unity, only comes through Jesus Christ. Let us be careful in our empathy not to give allegiance where it is not due. We don’t give the allegiance due only to God to people and not to groups and causes that are un-Biblical at their very foundations. We value all human life as made in the image of God, but we are never to place any other human being in the place of God. We never bow to others in the form of worship. The world will look for answers outside of God’s Word and human wisdom will always be inadequate. Continue to point others to Christ, not only for the current troubles of the world, but always.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-3
